January 13, 2012 - Abilene Spectacular
Team Hanson just returned home from the Abilene Spectacular with two more titles!
Congrats to Phil for earning the Reserve Championship in the 4-Year-Old Stallion Incentive at this year's Abilene Spectacular!  Phil also made the 5/6 Open finals on LHR Royal Flush after winning the 1st go with a 222!.  John Lindsey and Drisco Cat topped the 5/6 Amateur with a 219 for a $4,000 payday. Way to go guys!

2012 - A Great Year!
As 2012 comes to a close, we would like to thank everyone that has made another successful year possible here at Hanson Cutting Horses. We've seen several of our longtime customers gain immense showmanship skills this year and have great success, and we've also welcomed some new talented cutting enthusiasts to our dynamic team. From our barn help and lopers to our customers and sponsors, everyone had a hand in this year's triumphs, and for that we are all very grateful!

One of our biggest highlights of the year came recently at the NCHA Futurity. While Phil didn't fare well on his two 3-year-olds he entered the Futurity on, we did get to watch Morgan Cromer advance to the Open finals on Looks Halreycious, a horse she was catch-riding for Phil. Congrats to owners Larry and Liz Stacy! We look forward to this talented horse's 4-year-old year. Another horse trained by Phil, Mia Browbeater, carried Greg Coalson to the Non-Pro Reserve Championship at the Futurity. The two marked a 219 for $43,854.

Other achievements in 2012 included Phil winning the Cattlemen's Derby on Pounce, and tying for Reserve at the West Texas Futurity on LHR Royal Flush. Phil also made the Open semifinals at the NCHA Summer Spectacular and the NCHA Super Stakes.

Carl Gerwien had an outstanding year, with his 3-year-old PRF Catmambo! The two won the Non-Pro at the PCCHA Futurity and placed third at the Brazos Bash! Carl also won the 5/6 Non-Pro at the Arbuckle Futurity this year, and made the Non-Pro semifinals at the NCHA Super Stakes and the 5/6 finals at the B.I.! A few other wins in our barn included Kyle Manion's Non-Pro win at the NCHA Summer Spectacular on Chet Smooth. They also earned the Reserve Non-Pro Championship at the NCHA Super Stakes, and finished third at the B.I. John Lindsey made several Amateur finals this year and won the 5/6 at the Arbuckle Futurity! Julie Clarke also earned numerous finals spots, as did Sherry Chamberlin at the Bonanza this year. And last, but not least, Leah Hanson won the 4-Year-Old Novice Non-Pro in Arbuckle and made the finals in Abilene at the beginning of the year!

The team is already headed out to Abilene for the first show of the year. We're excited about all of the talented horses we're hauling this year, as well as our dedicated non-pros!

LHR Smooth Jamie May crowned NCHA Horse of the Year!

What a year Hanson Cutting Horses has had, and it's not over yet! First and foremost, we would like to offer a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported us through the NCHA Horse of the Year race. LHR Smooth Jamie May and Phil went neck and neck with two incredible horses and accomplished horsemen (Dont Look Twice, ridden by Phil Rapp, and Third Cutting, ridden by Boyd Rice) before securing the title while at the PCCHA Futurity in Paso Robles, Calif.

It took a lot of hard work from everyone. We couldn't have done it without our team and those that contributed to our success on the road. We would like to thank all of the trainers that helped us in the arena including Matt Budge, Matt Gaines, Sean Flynn, Clint Allen, John Mitchell, Grant Setnicka, Tim Smith, Josh Sleeman, Russ Westfall, Brent Erickson, Tim Castilaw, Randy Holman, Skip Queen and Jerry Hansma. Also, Phil Rapp and Boyd Rice who didn't hesitate to give their all when they were in the corner or turning back for Phil, despite being the competition. That's what sportsmanship is all about and we feel so fortunate to be a part of such a remarkable sport with these wonderful people! We've traveled all over this year, from the West Coast to Canada and had great support at every event. God has truly blessed us this year in so many ways. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Sherry Chamberlin, owner of Lazy H Ranch and LHR Smooth Jamie May, for allowing Phil to show this great mare and reach this huge accomplishment!
